The name "Cyrus"
The name "Cyrus" is the Greek version of the Persian Koroush or Khorvash meaning: "Like the sun" in Persian khour means "sun" and vash is a suffix of similarity.
Cyrus (580-529 BC), was the first king in the world to be referred to as "The Great". Even though he was known to be a brilliant military commander, he was considered to be a a liberator rather than a conqueror. So successful were his policies of conquest, mercifulness and assimilation that the empire continued to thrive for about 200 years after his death. He showed great respect towards the religious beliefs and cultural traditions of other races. These qualities earned him the respect of all the people over whom he ruled.
Ever since, the name Cyrus has been a popular one mainly within the Zoroastrian community. The Zoroastrians are followers of the Prophet Zarathushtra whose teachings represent Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds.
You guessed it! My name is Cyrus. I don't know about "The Great" side of things, but I try to act out the good thoughts, good words, and good deeds part of it.
I am currently based in New Zealand with my wife Nancy, and live in an area called Albany in Auckland. This is finally home, we think, and after all the travelling in the last few years we intend to stay put for a while, hopefully. We love it here and weather permitting enjoy the outdoors as much as we can. The fresh air! What a relief after Discovery Bay, Hong Kong and the pollution in that part of the world.
My wife Nancy is a full time teacher at a secondary school in Auckland. I am back at university, and am doing a Bachelor of Education programme. Otherwise, my time is spent in offering a few web related services including domain registration and web hosting through The Promotion Group network of sites that I manage on an ongoing basis.
